What are AHAs and BHAs?

AHAs, or Alpha Hydroxy Acids, are naturally occurring acids that you might find in skincare. They can be naturally sourced from plants, fruit, diary or their fermented bi-products.
AHAs mainly work on the skin’s surface and help to balance the skin microbiome.
Good examples include lactic (safe for teens at a low percentage, when used as a post-biotic) and glycolic acid (teens should avoid).
BHAs, or beta hydroxycarboxylic acids, are deeply exfoliating acids that are beneficial for rough or bumpy skin texture, blemishes, breakouts and other skin conditions.
BHA’s work on both the skin’s surface and within the pores, helping to clear out excess oil and impurities. A good example is salicylic acid (safe for teens at a low concentration, when skin conditions like breakouts are present).
